i think people created society and then society began to create people
people began to form societies out of their need for human contact but then the social force became greater than the individual and began to then shape how people saw who they were and who they wanted to be
Not only does society help to create the individual persons identity, but it also dictate how these individuals will view the world, which is usually based on the society in which they live.
Hi, Syreeta. Welcome to the blog. Yes, you have a great point of view on socialization what with that beautiful daughter. While you teach her, is it the case that she also comes packaged with "things" of her own? Her disposition, her temperament, her "free will", her way, her observations?
I definitely agree with all the comments stated previously. Durkheim argues that belonging to a group/society, we will be shaped, at some extend we will be restrain (from committing suicide), will be in check, will be-safeguarded. I will say that our societies are like bomb shelters. We will be safe as long as we are part of a society. An example of this is the story of Adam and Eve. When they were alone they formed their own society; their society had rules and regulations that told them how to behave in order to live on paradise. Once Eve decided to become an individual of her own she suffered the consequences of withdrawing from her society. She decided to do as she pleased; the harsh consequence of her action was death! Durkheim (Suicide article) argues that once the person brakes away from their society, then the person losses track of who they are, goals, how to behave, how to think, feel, walk, breath, survive. If the person losses all these things then you commit suicide, because you no longer feel safeguarded, you have abandon the bomb shelter = Suicide.
I think people creates society, without people there will not be any society. Society needs people to create it.
