Offensive

This is an image of the Spain's Olympic basketball posing for an ad prior to the Olympic games. All the players are slanting their eyes. A lot of people around the world are getting upset about this picture because of what they are doing. The ad is for a Spanish courier service and it has appeared in a Spanish newspaper. Even people in the states are upset over this picture because this is suppose to be a time of unity and not racism. Should us in the states care about what the Spanish team is doing? Is this racist?

It is obvious that the team was just trying to be funny. But then again, it is not our country that is doing this action. As for the racist part, it kind of is, then again, tell me what sport or team around the world tries not to intimidate their opponent prior to game time? Even in the kickboxing world (which currently I’m a fighter), my opponents talk pure s^$% to me before and after the game and I do not take it to heart because I know that they are trying to scare me. Poor sportsmanship is the cause of this type of behavior from the Spanish team because in today's professional sports, many teams portray this type of behavior because they believe they are better than their rivals.
I leave you guys with one question that I would like feedback from all you: Will the Racism and Poor Sportsmanship ever end???

I feel insulted by seeing this and i'm not chinese. it is offensive, whether it was only as a joke or intimidation technique, it does seem racist to me. Where i'm trying to get at is that the US should care. We are a diverse country, we have many nations and ethnicity. It is not about US being "nosy" but feeling sympathy for does being offended. If we just don't say anything and pretend it didn't happened we might not be committing the racist act, we might be endorsing it.

Everyone knows that this act was a joke...But even with that being said, it is obvious that it should have never taken place. They were completely out of line.
